When will I hear if I've received the Louis Riel Bursary?
Your post-secondary institution is responsible for distributing the funds. Please contact your school's financial aid and awards department if you have questions about your Louis Riel Bursary funding.
How much can I receive for the Louis Riel Bursary?
Each post-secondary institution has different amounts available for students. This all depends on how many applicants there are and how much money is available to give out to each eligible student.
What sort of information should my letter of recommendation have on it?
Your letter of recommendation from an academic community member should be from someone who can talk about you academically. Alternatively, it could be from an employer. We want them to be able to describe the kind of student/worker you are, how you approach your school work/job related duties, your grades/work ethic, and your overall relationship with members of your class/co-workers and/or school.
Your letter of recommendation from a Métis community member should be from someone who can talk about their relationship with you. The individual does have to be Red River Métis, but they don't have to be a registered MMF Citizen. They should be able to talk about your duties and responsibilities within the Red River Métis community and talk about the skills you have learned within the Métis community.
Your letter of recommendation from a professional in the field of butcher/abattoir should be from someone who can talk about, and provide examples of, your relationship and your role within the butcher/abattoir community.
What sort of information should my essay have on it?
Your essay should be about what program you are in and why you are in that program. It should also mention what your future plans are, and how they will be accomplished and why you want to accomplish them. You should also include any extracurricular activities you do as well as your community involvement (volunteering). The more detailed you are, the better. If you mention that you will accomplish your goals through school by "studying more," that's not descriptive enough. You should be thinking about what steps you need to take in order to accomplish your goals and detail them in your essay.
